The Superbowl was this Sunday and the main reason I would really watch it would be to watch the commercials, halftime, and just to know who won. This year I wasn't really feeling it that much and missed a lot of the commercials and missed halftime. Luckily, I can look all of the commercials online. I thought the companies played it somewhat safe this year, but I did enjoy a lot of them. There is nothing wrong with playing it safe, but I just think viewers were expecting more surprising, exciting ads. As for the halftime show I knew it was Madonna and was not really interested in seeing her performance. I got a glance of the performance with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. and of course there had to be some sort of commotion. M.I.A. flipped off the crowd, camera, and the world. I didn't really care because of how desensitized I am as a result from other television shows and movies, but it definitely was not appropriate. I was reading all about the stunt and this is what I found out. Performers usually have two payments, one before performance, and one after performance. Because of the new policies that have been put into place because of other stunts *cough* Janet Jackson *cough* M.I.A. will most likely having to pay a fine or a reduced pay check because of her darn finger.
After I saw what the video clip of what happened I then found another article on how M.I.A. has had some pretty controversial music videos and songs. I ended up finding "Born Free" on YouTube. It has been banned from MTV and other stations because of the violence and issues it brings up. I decided I just HAD to watch this video, which you have to be 18 or older to watch. It was meant to be taken as a stance against genocide and was a very graphic, violent video. I liked the song though. If you can't handle gore or violence I suggest you move on and never watch it. It looks like she is targeting America, but I think the overall message was not against America. Well, whatever the video was about I could have gone without seeing someone being blown up to bits. Always remember, curiosity killed the cat haha.

Oh my gosh i followed the MIA scandal as much as you did! (While i actually enjoyed the half time show from Madonna, i was curious in the first place why MIA was even on the same stage as her.) and now makes sense she was banned from MTV and i hope to never see that video again! also, i didnt know that about the pay checks for performers on the super bowl, thats interesting!
